I had never heard of Haemochromatosis before meeting Joseph. I quickly discovered what a life changing diagnosis it can be and the full implications of your body absorbing and storing excessive amounts of iron from your diet.

1 in 150 people in England are affected by it, with the ratio being much higher in Scotland and Ireland, although it is a little known disease.

I am fundraising for Haemochromatosis UK to raise awareness and help the charity support those living with iron overload.

I haven’t done much running beyond sprinting for a bus (very regularly!) for a long time, so this 10k is going to be a challenge. Please support my determination to achieve this and my fundraising goal by donating. Bethan Weston Smith
