Help us fund medical researchers working in this important but sometimes overlooked field of clinical research. HUK Nursing & Healthcare Practitioner Best Practice Award This award is for a nurse-led research project that advances patient safety and/or the care of people with genetic haemochromatosis. Entries may cover any aspect of genetic haemochromatosis diagnosis, treatment, management and monitoring or associated patient education. Entries may take the form of a poster or written abstract or video or interactive presentation/webinar. Any project undertaken between 1st May 2024 and 31st December 2025, is eligible for this award. The project may have already started or is planned to start within these dates. The award is available to all UK-based practising nurses and allied healthcare practitioners. We particularly encourage applications from : community and primary care practitioners applicants who are in the early stages of their professional career (including trainee/student nurses) Entries are assessed by our clinical team and members of the HUK Clinical Advisory Panel. The winner will receive a £2,000 award for the submission which best advances the care of people with genetic haemochromatosis (and/or their families), and where the first author is a nurse. The judges may award up to three runner-up prizes of £1,000 where there is more than one outstanding entry. Fernau Medical Research Award The Fernau Medical Research Award is an annual award of up to £20,000 to support research projects that will advance good clinical practice in the diagnosis and management of genetic haemochromatosis. The award is available to UK-registered voluntary groups/charities, community groups/collectives and institutions, including universities and NHS trusts for new research projects planned to be undertaken between 1st January 2025 and 31st December 2025. We particularly encourage applications from : applicants who have not previously received Royal College, NIHR or AHSN funding in the preceding 3 years applicants who are in the early stages of their professional career (F1, F2, ST1, ST2 etc) applications from individual healthcare practitioners who wish to develop the project collaboratively with Haemochromatosis UK on a fellowship basis Applications for the 2025 awards open on 1st July for submission by Noon on Friday 30th September 2024.
