Will you organise a casual Walk & Talk during Haemochromatosis Awareness Week (1st-7th July 2024) with friends & family?

Please ask your friends and family to join you during 1st-7th July for your fundraising and awareness walk. Pick a day for your walk or even do a walk every day throughout the week.

Whatever your fitness level, you can get involved in helping to raise awareness of genetic haemochromatosis whilst raising funds for the cause!

  • Sign up here so we know who is walking and (optionally) so we can let others know if you are walking in the same area.
  • Decide your own distance, be it a walk around your garden or a 30 mile hike!
  • Decide your own location; it could be anything from a gentle, local amble around your town or village or something more demanding involving a mountain(#)!
  • Set up your fundraising page, electing "Walk & Talk for HAW 2024" as the appeal, to fundraise in aid of HUK
  • Purchase your fundraising pack which includes a HUK UK T-shirt and #EarlyDiagnosisSavesLives baseball cap to wear as you go so no one can miss you!
  • Dress in as much red as possible to raise awareness.
  • Share your photos on social media using #HAW24 & #EarlyDiagnosisSavesLives

A huge thank you to everyone getting involved. We can't wait to see what you get up to!

Here are some ideas for maximising your awareness raising...

  • Drop awareness leaflets into 25 or 50 local homes - request a pack here!
  • Ask at work/community groups if you are able to hold a cake sale/book sale etc in the lead up to it to raise more money and awareness.
  • Does your planned route go past a coffee shop/pub/restaurant? Maybe you could stop for a refreshment and ask in advance if they would be willing to put up some HUK posters to draw attention to the event and raise even more awareness. Maybe your local shops may do the same?
  • Use our media pack for facts & figures and contact your local media and ask them to cover your story!
  • Contact your local elected representative(s) with details about genetic haemochromatosis - ask them to support you!
  • Ask your local GP or venesection clinic to put up one of our posters advertising the event.
  • Share photos or posts on your social media accounts (Facebook or Twitter) both leading up to the day and on the day of your walk. Tell people why you are doing this. Share pages from our website. Use the #HAW24 and #EarlyDiagnosisSavesLives hashtags.

We are so grateful for everything you do to support us. Together we can make a difference and change the lives of those living with genetic haemochromatosis for the better.

(#) Please note : We hope you have fun planning and running your fundraiser in aid of HUK.
