In the last couple of years, our charity received two gifts that have been used for pioneering work to improve the lives of everyone with haemochromatosis.

The 'Martha' and 'Molly' donations are gifts from the wills of two ladies in support of our haemochromatosis cause. We immediately put the gifts to work on pioneering research and the MyIron+ App.

As we enter the trial phase of some if this research, we would like to acknowledge the generosity of these gifts, and let our community know we have a lot to thank our legacy givers for. To their family we say, "you can be very proud as you remember them".

With all research like this, there are no guarantees, although all the signs are very positive. Any research in this area takes us a step closer to better diagnosis and treatment of haemochromatosis.

We would encourage you all to include a gift in your will to Haemochromatosis UK (Registered as Charity number 1001307 and SCO41701), after family and loved ones have been taken care of, the next time you make or amend your will.

According the gov.uk website, "Your will lets you decide what happens to your money, property and possessions after your death." If you make a will you can also make sure you do not pay more Inheritance Tax* than you need to. There are different rules for Scotland and different rules for Northern Ireland.

In line with the wishes of their supportive family, we have changed the names of our will-giving donors, who thoughtfully added us to their will.

If you would like to discuss a potential gift in your will or any other donation, you can contact Neil Irwin, Philanthropy Manager at [email protected] or 078 0563 6699.

Thank you M.& M.

*Any money you leave to a charity, providing it is registered in the UK, will always be free from inheritance tax. What's more, if you leave more than 10% of your taxable estate to charity in your will, the inheritance tax rate for the rest of your estate will fall from 40% to 36%.
