We are sad to report that the charity’s founder Janet Fernau MBE has passed away. Our charity was started by Janet in 1990 as The Haemochromatosis Society and was led by her until 2015.

We acknowledge her invaluable contribution to the patient community, particularly her determination to help anyone affected by the condition, to educate clinicians, raise public awareness and stimulate research for the benefit of our community.

In 2011, Janet was awarded a MBE for her services to healthcare and the voluntary sector.

Her legacy continues, through the annual Fernau Medical Research Award, established in 2020.

We relay our deepest sympathies to Janet’s family and many friends.
