We've recently established a new service for people affected by genetic haemochromatosis.

Our new Buddy Scheme pairs newly diagnosed people with genetic haemochromatosis with our trained volunteer buddies, to provide ongoing 1-2-1 support around :

  • a new diagnosis
  • family concerns about genetic haemochromatosis
  • anxiety about venesections or treatment
  • questions about diet, vitamins or living well with iron overload

You can chat with a Buddy every couple of weeks for up to 3 months, by phone at a time that suits you.

All our Buddy volunteers are DBS-checked and have completed listening skills, bereavement and suicide awareness training alongside a specialist course in haemochromatosis care. Our Buddies are based all across the UK and overseen by our specialist nursing team. There's no cost to get involved and you can start and stop whenever you like!
