This conference brings together expert Clinical Nursing Specialists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners to share their expertise and approaches to GH care, including contributions from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, NHS Blood & Transplant, Welsh Blood Service and Haemochromatosis UK.

At the end of the conference, delegates will :

• have gained an understanding of the latest key topics in GH care, including the role of pathogenic genotypes in causing iron overload - and how they vary in severity and care needs
• have developed an understanding of the role of blood donor services within the GH care pathway
• have explored common patient issues with venesection - and how to resolve them
• have explored 'uncommon' forms of iron overload, how they are expressed and what causes them
• have participated in critically assessing and refining the latest venesection best practice guidance for clinical use across the UK

This event is suitable for all nursing and allied healthcare practitioners, including venesection clinic/service managers.

9.45am - 1pm Morning Study Sessions, to include :

Demystifying 'uncommon' forms of iron overload 

An in-depth case review of recent examples of iron overload in compound heterozygotes, heterozygotes (carriers) and phenotypic expressions of iron overload resulting from digenic inheritance.

The role of non-invasive Fibroscan in nursing-led GH care

A case study of changes to GH services in the North West following the Covid pandemic. Our guest speaker will explore how nurse-led initiatives have helped services get back on track through patient-centred GH care, including the role of non-invasive Fibroscan clinics to improve clinical outcomes.

The role of blood donation within the GH care pathway 

A review of recent improvements to donor services for people with GH. An exploration of how donor services can complement established GH care pathways. Presented by the Welsh Blood Service and NHS Blood & Transplant.

Genetic haemochromatosis - a Welsh NHS perspective

The latest developments in GH services in Wales.

Common patient issues and how to resolve them 

A round-table discussion of common patient issues that arise with venesection - and how to resolve them.

Learning from patient perspectives

A round-up of common patient issues shared with the Haemochromatosis UK helpline - solutions and remedies.

An introduction to MyIron+

An introduction to the new MyIron+ app for patients, a free iron overload app which enables patients to track and manage their GH care.

Tickets are non-refundable, however tickets can be transferred once between named delegates before Friday 3rd May (contact our office for details).

If ordering 5 or more places, complete a booking form and send it to our office for purchase order/invoice details for employers including NHS Trusts & Health Boards. Group orders are subject to a £50 (no VAT) surcharge to cover our additional administrative costs for processing official purchase orders. Group orders must be paid for in full by Friday 3rd May or places will be cancelled and released to the waitlist.
