This Volunteers week we give a spot light to Gail. Gail has worked on a number of our publications

Gail M Pearce is a London-based designer whose career spans 14 years. She has worked at creative agencies, design studios and in-house for clients across a diverse range of sectors. Gail takes pride in her work and has built a career around knowing how to fulfil the design brief, engage the audience and communicate ideas using design. After establishing her own graphic design company in 2018, she expanded her services to include surface pattern design and illustration. Pattern making has taken Gail to create intricate designs that incorporate her unique design signature of combining a modern aesthetic with a love of colour and symmetry.

How long have you been volunteering for HUK and why do you?

I started volunteering for HUK in early 2019 when I came across an online call out for a graphic designer. As somebody who has a Haemochromatosis diagnosis, the opportunity to contribute my professional skills and experience, whilst helping raise awareness of a cause that’s close to my own heart, was an opportunity I couldn’t resist. The hard work put in by entire team at HUK, to raise awareness and provide information and support, is invaluable and I am proud to be able to make a contribution in my own way.

What do you like about volunteering for HUK?

When I was diagnosed with Haemochromatosis in my twenties, I was bewildered by the lack of community awareness around such a prevalent genetic condition. With iron overload affecting 1 in 150 people in the UK, volunteering with HUK has been a once in a lifetime opportunity to help make a difference to people who are yet to be diagnosed, as well as those living with the condition day to day. It has also been so rewarding, from a personal perspective, to work with the wonderful team at HUK who work so tirelessly and passionately for the cause.
