As Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease, #TeamIronOverload have been on the road in March and April exhibiting at clinician events in Manchester and Glasgow, speaking with haematologists and rheumatologists.

British Society of Haematology conference in Manchester

We were delighted to meet Annette (pictured below, a Clinical Nurse Specialist) from Cardiff at the British Society of Haematology conference who had some lovely things to say about how we go about collaborating with the NHS.

There was strong research interest at the BSH Conference into iron overload with (research summary) posters from teams in Birmingham and Nottingham.

 

These included (above, left to right), Omolade Dada from University of Nottingham Medical School who completed research on the effects of pausing venesection in patients aged over 70, at Derby University Hospital NHS Trust, due to Covid 19.

Husband-and-wife team Betty Beresovsky (from Charles University, Prague) and Dan Rogalsky (from QE Hospital Birmingham) presented their findings of studies of iron overload in mice, primary research to better understand transferrin receptor behaviour and to open up further avenues for research in humans.

British Society of Rheumatology conference in Glasgow

#TeamIronOverload headed north of the border in late April to present at the British Society of Rheumatology Conference in Glasgow's SEC. Over 1,200 delegates attended in person, with a further 800 online.

Our specially designed stand, part-supported by BSR, may not have been subtle but it showed common haemochromatosis arthropathies that clinicians should be looking out for.

 

We were delighted to sponsor a presentation by one of our clinical advisors Dr Patrick Kiely (Consultant Rheumatologist at St George's Medical School, London). Dr Kiely emphasised to delegates the physical manifestations of haemochromatosis that can be used to diagnose people from their arthropathy.

We're now almost half-way through the 2022 season of clinician events that we are attending, with more to come :
